Sketch Writing 1 is an 8-week class that covers the fundamentals of sketch comedy and teaches you how to develop any idea - good, bad, or ugly - into a comedy script you can be proud of. This class is open to seasoned veterans and beginners alike and will focus on brainstorming, pitching, writing, and polishing your witty and weird ideas in a fun, collaborative environment. This is a writing-focused class, so while previous improv experience is always a plus (and we’ll talk about how improv can improve sketch), it’s definitely not required.
We’ll cover the most common types and genres of sketch and explore the core ideas of sketch writing, from exploring premise to highlighting bold characters and points of view - and everything in between. Our final week will culminate in a (relaxed) Readers‘ Theater script showcase so you can share your work with family and friends. Whether you already have a notebook full of random ideas or you just want to try something new, come join us for this brand new script class!
Taught by Hillary Prager and Josh Hepler
